position available:
industrial designer

The Role:
Department: Engineering & Marketing
Reports To: CEO/CMO/CTO
Location: Frankfurt or Remote / Hybrid
The Industrial Designer is accountable for leading the end-to-end design of innovative, user-centered physical products – from concept through to production. This role owns the creative and technical development of product forms, ensuring alignment with user needs, brand identity, engineering requirements, and manufacturing feasibility. The designer is responsible for delivering design solutions that are functional, sustainable, and commercially viable.
What You’ll Do
- Owns the product design process, including research, concept generation, sketching, 3D modeling, prototyping, and design refinement.
- Is accountable for creating compelling and feasible product concepts that meet user needs, market trends, and business objectives.
- Leads the development of high-fidelity 3D CAD models and renderings using industry-standard tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Blender, FreeCAD), ensuring accuracy and readiness for engineering and manufacturing handover.
- Delivers functional and aesthetic prototypes through rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, model-making) and is responsible for validating design performance through testing and iteration.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams, ensuring design intent is maintained while addressing technical and production constraints.
- Makes informed decisions on materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes, balancing cost, durability, sustainability, and scalability.
- Produces and maintains comprehensive design documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
- Conducts and applies user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and drives improvements based on user feedback.
- Presents design concepts and justifications to stakeholders, taking ownership of communication and securing buy-in through clear, visually compelling narratives.
- Drives sustainable design practices by integrating eco-conscious principles (e.g., material efficiency, recyclability, Cradle to Cradle, EPD) into all stages of product development.
- Monitors project timelines and milestones, ensuring on-time delivery of design outputs without compromising quality.
Essential Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of professional industrial design experience, with demonstrated accountability for shipping consumer or commercial products.
- Proven ability to lead design projects independently and deliver results in collaborative environments.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in:
– CAD (SolidWorks, Blender, FreeCAD)
– 2D/3D visualization
– Prototyping and workshop tools (3D printing, laser cutting, hand modeling) - Working knowledge of DFM, DFA, GD&T, and common manufacturing processes
Core Competencies:
- Ownership mindset: Takes responsibility for design outcomes and project success.
- Decision-making: Exercises sound judgment when balancing aesthetics, function, and feasibility.
- Accountability: Delivers on commitments, meets deadlines, and follows through on feedback.
- Innovation & Problem-Solving: Identifies challenges early and drives creative, practical solutions.
- Communication: Clearly articulates design rationale and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
